Remote Copy Editor & Proofreader (Entry Level)

As an Entry-Level Copy Editor & Proofreader, you will serve as the final line of defense for our brand's written content. You will review a high volume of digital assets—ranging from blog articles and email campaigns to whitepapers and product descriptions—ensuring they are mathematically flawless, structurally sound, and aligned with our voice. The ideal candidate has an innate eye for detail, can catch errors that standard spell-check tools miss, and takes pride in polished copy. Key Responsibilities • Comprehensive Proofreading Review final drafts for mechanical errors, including typos, spelling mistakes, punctuation missteps, and syntax glitches. • Copy Editing for Flow Refine copy to improve readability, flow, and sentence structure without altering the author’s intended meaning or unique voice. • Style Guide Compliance Ensure all content adheres strictly to company guidelines or standardized systems (e.g., AP Stylebook, Chicago Manual of Style). • Fact & Link Verification Cross-check internal facts, verify proper noun spellings, and test hyperlink destinations within text files to ensure accuracy. • Constructive Feedback Provide clear, actionable feedback and track changes cleanly within collaborative tools (e.g., Google Docs, Microsoft Word). • Version Control Manage and catalog edited drafts within the team's cloud storage system to maintain organized document lifecycles. Qualifications & Core Requirements • Experience Prior experience editing for a school newspaper, personal blog, or internships is a major plus, but we are prepared to train candidates with exceptional natural aptitude. • Language Command Absolute mastery of English grammar, idioms, punctuation rules, and vocabulary nuances. • Technical Literacy Proficiency with Microsoft Word (Track Changes), Google Docs (Suggesting Mode), and familiarity with project boards (Asana, Trello). • Soft Skills Extreme attention to detail, a thick skin for collaborative critique, and the focus to manage tight deadlines independently.
